Frequently Asked Questions

What does a life coach actually do?

A life coach helps you figure out what you want and how to get there. I help you set, stick to, and achieve some of your life goals. It is someone who asks good questions, helps you see your situation more clearly, and holds you accountable to the steps you say you want to take.

Is coaching the same as therapy?

No. Therapy often looks back at healing and processing. Coaching looks forward, at where you are now and where you want to go. I focus on goal-setting and action steps, and I will never diagnose. Therapy is about healing and coaching is about achieving.

Who do you work with?

Anyone, at any life stage, going through a transition or looking for support. I also have expertise in teenagers, whether you're the parent or the student. I know their communication styles, in addition to the college admissions process, inside & out.

What actually happens in a coaching?

A lot of it is uncovering patterns: the way you react to stress, the way you talk to your child or partner, the way you've always handled change. Once you can see the pattern, you can change it, and that tends to improve the relationships around you too.

What does a session look like?

I create a safe space for you to talk about what you want from life. We talk, I ask a lot of questions, and we usually leave with one or two concrete things to try before we meet again.

How is this different than talking to a friend?

A friend has opinions about your life. A coach doesn't have an agenda for what you should do. I'm trained to help you find your own answer, not hand you mine.

How do I know if I need this?

If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like you and your child or partner are speaking two different langauges, that's usually a sign coaching could help. You don't need a crisis to start.
